Demonstrators

The SonoSkin wearable ultrasound platform will be demonstrated with two challenging use cases: lung monitoring (Demcon, Polar), and musculoskeletal health monitoring (Aesculap, Materialise).

Database Database

Lung monitoring

Suboptimal ventilator settings commonly lead to patient injury that can prolong mechanical ventilation, leading to multi-system organ dysfunction, and increased mortality. In SonoSkin a fused ultrasound and sEMG sensor system will be developed that offers decision support for clinicians who set ventilator settings. Additionally, the feasibility of a wearable lung volume sensor for personal health, wellness and sports applications will be investigated.

Musculoskeletal health monitoring

The assessment of musculoskeletal health and function is critical for the development of effective and personalized interventions such as orthopedic surgery, rehabilitation, injury prevention and accurate diagnosis. In SonoSkin a wearable ultrasound garment will be developed that, based on an array of IMU sensors and ultrasound transducers, tracks the exact skeletal movements, and is suitable for out-of-lab use, e.g. by orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists and even in the home environment to assist in pre-operative planning and post-interventional rehabilitation.
